Designer Bags That Actually Fit a Laptop: The Definitive List

April 1, 2026

Here is the situation. You have a meeting, you need your laptop, and you want to look like you did not just roll out of a WeWork. The problem is that most designer bags were designed for a lipstick, a card holder, and maybe a phone. Laptops were not part of the equation.

So you end up doing the two-bag thing. A beautiful bag for aesthetics and a sad nylon tote for your actual computer. Or you give up entirely and carry a backpack, which, fine, but you did not spend years building a bag collection to carry a JanSport to client dinners.

This guide is the definitive answer to the question every working woman with taste has Googled at least once: which designer bags actually fit a laptop? We measured everything. We split it into 13-inch and 16-inch categories. We noted which ones zip closed (this matters more than you think). And we included retail prices and current resale values so you can make the smart purchase, not just the pretty one.

Pro tip: measure your actual laptop with its case or sleeve before buying. A 13-inch MacBook Air is 11.97" x 8.46". A 16-inch MacBook Pro is 14.01" x 9.77". Add half an inch on each side if you use a protective sleeve. Those extra inches matter.

13-Inch MacBook

Bags That Fit a 13-Inch Laptop

The 13-inch MacBook Air (and the older 13-inch Pro) is 11.97" x 8.46" x 0.44". These bags all accommodate that footprint, most with room to spare. This is the easier size to shop for because the laptop is compact enough to fit in structured bags that do not look like totes.

1. Belt Bag Micro

Structured + secure

Celine

Dimensions: 11" W x 9.5" H x 7" DZips closed: Yes, top zip
Retail: $3,100Resale: $1,400–$1,900

The Belt Bag Micro is the sleeper pick for a work bag. It does not look like a laptop bag at all, which is exactly the point. The structured shape holds a 13-inch MacBook Air upright with room for a wallet, phone, and small pouch. The top zip closure means your laptop is actually secure, not just sitting in an open tote waiting to slide out in an Uber. The grained calfskin is durable enough for daily use and the knotted belt detail gives it personality without screaming "I am carrying my work computer." Taupe, black, and amazone green are the best colors for office rotation.

2. Sac de Jour Small

The power bag

Saint Laurent

Dimensions: 12.5" W x 10" H x 6.5" DZips closed: Yes, optional top zip
Retail: $3,250Resale: $1,200–$1,800

If there is one bag that says "I am very good at my job" without trying, it is the Sac de Jour. This is the structured top-handle that lawyers, creative directors, and women in finance have been carrying for a decade. The small size fits a 13-inch laptop flat against the back interior wall. The accordion sides expand for extra room when you need it. The optional top zip panel lets you close it fully or leave it open for easy access. Black grained leather is the most versatile and ages beautifully. This bag means business and everyone in the room knows it.

3. St Louis PM

Lighter than your laptop

Goyard

Dimensions: 15" W x 11" H x 6" DZips closed: No, open top
Retail: $1,620Resale: $1,200–$1,500

The Goyard St Louis PM is deceptively roomy. The soft Goyardine canvas has zero structure, which means it molds around whatever you put in it. A 13-inch MacBook slides in easily with plenty of room for everything else. It weighs almost nothing, which matters when your laptop already adds two pounds to your day. The catch is the open top. There is no zip, no closure, just a small snap pouch inside. For commuting on public transit, that is a real consideration. For driving to work or walking into meetings, it is perfectly fine. The PM holds its resale value incredibly well because Goyard does not do sales and keeps distribution tight.

4. Le Pliage Original L

The practical queen

Longchamp

Dimensions: 12.25" W x 11.75" H x 7.5" DZips closed: Yes, full top zip
Retail: $155Resale: N/A (buy new)

Yes, the Longchamp Le Pliage. It is not a luxury bag in the traditional sense and that is fine. It fits a 13-inch laptop, it zips closed, it folds flat into your suitcase, it weighs nothing, and it costs $155. Every French woman owns one for a reason. The nylon is practically indestructible and the leather handles and flap add just enough polish. This is the bag you grab on rainy days, travel days, or any day when you do not want to think about your bag. It is also the best "bag inside a bag" option if you want laptop protection inside a larger unstructured tote. Zero pretension, maximum function.

5. Galleria Medium

Saffiano workhorse

Prada

Dimensions: 13" W x 9.5" H x 7" DZips closed: Yes, top zip
Retail: $3,800Resale: $1,400–$2,000

The Galleria is Prada at its most practical. The Saffiano leather (Prada invented this cross-hatch texture, by the way) is nearly scratch-proof and wipes clean in seconds. The medium size fits a 13-inch laptop with the structured interior keeping everything organized. Two interior compartments plus a center zip pocket give you actual separation between your laptop and your personal items. The double handles sit comfortably on the shoulder or in the crook of your arm. Black Saffiano is the classic, but Prada releases seasonal colors that can be fun if you want personality in your work bag.

6. Peekaboo Medium

Italian elegance

Fendi

Dimensions: 12" W x 10" H x 5" DZips closed: No, twist lock closure
Retail: $4,800Resale: $1,500–$2,200

The Peekaboo fits a 13-inch laptop, but just barely. You are sliding it in vertically and it will sit snugly against one side of the bag. The split interior (the signature "peek-a-boo" opening) actually helps here because you can dedicate one compartment to your laptop and the other to everything else. The medium is the size you want. The twist lock closure is not as secure as a zip, but the flap covers the opening completely. The Selleria leather version is hand-stitched and feels extraordinary. At pre-owned prices in the $1,500 to $2,200 range, you are getting a serious bag at a serious discount. Just know the fit is tight, so skip this one if you use a bulky laptop case.

7. Puzzle Large

Fashion meets function

Loewe

Dimensions: 13" W x 9.5" H x 7" DZips closed: Yes, top zip
Retail: $3,900Resale: $1,800–$2,500

The Puzzle Large is the most interesting-looking bag on this list. Jonathan Anderson's geometric paneled design is genuinely unique, and the large size accommodates a 13-inch laptop comfortably. The top zip keeps everything secure, and the bag can be carried by the handles, on the shoulder, or crossbody. The soft calfskin leather breaks in beautifully over time. The Puzzle reads as a fashion bag rather than a work bag, which is perfect if you want something that transitions from meetings to dinner without a second thought. Tan, sand, and black are the most versatile. Loewe's cultural momentum continues to push resale values in the right direction.

16-Inch MacBook Pro

Bags That Fit a 16-Inch Laptop

The 16-inch MacBook Pro is 14.01" x 9.77" x 0.66". It is a big machine. Most structured designer bags cannot handle it. You are largely looking at totes here, which means open tops and less structure. That is the tradeoff. Bigger laptop, bigger bag, fewer options.

8. Neverfull MM / GM

The original everything bag

Louis Vuitton

Dimensions: MM: 12.5" W x 11" H x 5.5" D / GM: 15.5" W x 13" H x 7" DZips closed: No, cinch straps only
Retail: $2,030 (MM) / $2,170 (GM)Resale: $1,200–$1,600 (MM) / $1,300–$1,700 (GM)

The Neverfull earned its name. The GM easily swallows a 16-inch MacBook Pro with room to spare. The MM fits a 16-inch if you are comfortable with a snug fit (it works, but the laptop sits right against the top edge). If you are specifically buying for a 16-inch, go GM and do not look back. The Monogram canvas is practically indestructible and the coated cotton means weather is not a concern. No zip closure, just the side cinch straps, which is the only real downside. The Neverfull has been discontinued in monogram at various points, which has actually helped resale values. It is not the most exciting bag on this list, but it might be the most practical one.

9. OnTheGo MM

The modern Neverfull

Louis Vuitton

Dimensions: 13.75" W x 10.25" H x 6.25" DZips closed: No, open top with snap closure
Retail: $3,100Resale: $1,800–$2,400

Think of the OnTheGo as Louis Vuitton's answer to everyone who wanted a slightly more polished Neverfull. The MM fits a 16-inch MacBook Pro, and the structured shape keeps it upright and protected. The dual top handles and removable shoulder strap give you carrying options. Available in Monogram Empreinte (embossed leather), Monogram Giant, and seasonal variations. The Empreinte leather versions have a more understated, sophisticated look if you prefer something quieter than the classic monogram. No full zip, just a magnetic snap closure between the handles. LV discontinued certain OnTheGo colorways, so specific versions can command a premium on resale.

10. Book Tote Medium

The statement tote

Dior

Dimensions: 14" W x 11" H x 6.5" DZips closed: No, open top
Retail: $3,500Resale: $2,200–$2,800

The Dior Book Tote was literally designed to hold books, so a 16-inch laptop is no problem. Maria Grazia Chiuri introduced it in 2018 and it became an instant icon. The embroidered Dior Oblique canvas is stiff and structured, which means your laptop is well-supported inside. The medium is the right size for a 16-inch. The major caveat: completely open top, no closure at all. This is a bag for controlled environments, offices, cars, planned outings. Not the bag for a crowded subway. The embroidered versions are art pieces. The navy Oblique is the classic, but the seasonal embroidered editions are collectible and tend to hold resale value well. Just be prepared for zero security on the top.

11. Deauville Large

Chanel that works hard

Chanel

Dimensions: 15" W x 11" H x 8.5" DZips closed: No, magnetic snap
Retail: $4,200Resale: $2,800–$3,600

If you want a Chanel bag that fits a 16-inch laptop, the Deauville Large is your answer. It is one of the few Chanel bags with serious interior volume. The mixed-fiber canvas with chain and leather handles has a casual, resort-inspired feel that is more relaxed than most Chanel. A 16-inch MacBook Pro fits comfortably with room for chargers, notebooks, and everything else. The magnetic snap closure is not the most secure, but it does the job. The Deauville holds resale value well because it is functional Chanel, which is surprisingly rare. Navy, black, and the seasonal tweed versions are the strongest resale performers. This is the bag for women who want the double C on something they can actually use every day.

12. St Louis GM

Maximum capacity

Goyard

Dimensions: 22.5" W x 12.5" H x 6.75" DZips closed: No, open top
Retail: $1,790Resale: $1,400–$1,700

The GM version of the St Louis is genuinely enormous. A 16-inch MacBook Pro looks small inside this bag. It is the go-to for women who carry their entire life with them: laptop, gym clothes, a change of shoes, snacks, a water bottle. The Goyardine canvas is light and durable, and the bag itself weighs almost nothing even at this size. Same open-top caveat as the PM. No closure means your stuff is exposed. But for sheer volume-to-weight ratio, nothing on this list comes close. Goyard's controlled distribution and no-sale policy keeps resale values remarkably stable. If you buy a St Louis GM and take decent care of it, you will get most of your money back whenever you decide to sell.

13. Garden Party 36

Entry-level Hermes

Hermes

Dimensions: 14" W x 10.5" H x 7" DZips closed: No, snap closure (optional insert available)
Retail: $3,575Resale: $2,400–$3,200

The Garden Party 36 is the most accessible Hermes bag and one of the very few that fits a 16-inch laptop. The Negonda leather or Toile H canvas body is durable and low-maintenance, which makes it a legitimate work bag. No zip, just an interior snap, but the structured shape keeps everything upright and organized. The 36cm size is specifically the one you want for a 16-inch MacBook Pro. The 30cm will not work. The Garden Party does not have the cachet of a Birkin or Kelly, and that is actually an advantage. It is available in stores without a purchase history requirement, and resale prices are reasonable by Hermes standards. For women who want an Hermes bag they can actually use for work every day, this is the one.

Purr tracks real-time resale values on every bag in this list. Scan any designer bag, see what it is actually worth today, and track your collection like a portfolio. If you already own one of these, find out what it is worth.

Bags that do NOT fit a laptop (despite what you have heard)

Let us save you the disappointment. These bags come up in every "designer laptop bag" article and none of them actually work.

Chanel Classic Flap (any size). The Jumbo is 12" wide, which sounds like it could work for a 13-inch, but the interior is curved and the flap closure eats into the usable space. Your laptop will not fit. Do not force it. You will stress the leather and the turn-lock closure.

Hermes Birkin 30. The interior width is technically enough for a 13-inch MacBook Air, but the rigid structure and the curved shape at the top make it a very tight squeeze. The Birkin 35 could technically work, but jamming a laptop into a $15,000 bag feels like a crime. These bags were not designed for this.

Bottega Veneta Jodie. The hobo shape and slouchy construction mean zero laptop support. Even if you could slide one in, it would bend and flop around inside the bag. The Jodie is perfect for many things. Carrying electronics is not one of them.

Celine Luggage Nano or Micro. The name is misleading. These bags are small. The Nano barely fits a phone and a wallet. The Micro is better but still nowhere near laptop territory. You need the Mini Luggage at minimum, and even that is a stretch.

Dior Lady Dior (any size). The structured, boxy shape and the short handles make it one of the least practical bags for a laptop. The large size has enough interior volume in theory, but the top opening is too narrow and the bag is too rigid. Lady Dior is an evening and occasion bag. Let it be that.

The tote vs. structured bag debate

If you are buying a designer bag specifically for work and laptop-carrying, you need to decide where you land on the tote vs. structured spectrum. Both have real tradeoffs.

Totes (Neverfull, St Louis, Book Tote, Deauville): Maximum space, lightweight, easy access. Your laptop goes in and out quickly. The downside is security. Most luxury totes do not zip closed. Your laptop is sitting in an open bag. For car-to-office commuters, this is fine. For subway riders and frequent travelers, think carefully about whether that bothers you.

Structured bags (Sac de Jour, Galleria, Belt Bag, Peekaboo): More polished, more professional, better security with zip closures. Your laptop is protected and hidden. The downside is weight. Structured leather bags are heavier than canvas totes. Add a laptop and charger and you are carrying real weight on your arm or shoulder. Crossbody straps help here. Also, structured bags have tighter interior dimensions, so packing extras alongside your laptop gets tight.

The sweet spot? Own one of each. A Goyard St Louis or Neverfull for high-volume days when you need to carry everything, and a Sac de Jour or Celine Belt Bag for days when you want to look sharp and are only carrying the essentials plus your laptop. Two bags, all scenarios covered.

How to measure before you buy

The number one mistake people make when buying a designer bag for a laptop is trusting the listed dimensions without checking them against their actual setup. Here is what to do.

First, measure your laptop. Not the screen size, the actual physical dimensions including any case or sleeve you use. A 13-inch MacBook Air in a leather sleeve is closer to 13" x 9.5", which changes the equation. Second, check the bag's interior dimensions, not the exterior. A bag that is 14" wide on the outside might only be 12.5" usable on the inside once you account for the leather, lining, and structure. Third, if buying pre-owned or online, ask the seller for interior measurements specifically. Most listings only show exterior dimensions. Fourth, go to a store and try it. Bring your laptop (or a folder cut to the same size if you feel weird about it). There is no substitute for physically testing the fit.

The bottom line

You do not have to choose between looking great and being functional. Plenty of designer bags fit a laptop. The key is knowing exactly which ones work, which size to get, and whether the closure situation meets your needs. A 13-inch laptop gives you real options across structured bags and totes from Celine, Saint Laurent, Prada, Loewe, and more. A 16-inch MacBook Pro limits you mostly to totes, but the Neverfull, OnTheGo, Deauville, and Garden Party all handle it well.

Buy smart. Measure first. And if you are buying pre-owned (which you should, because the savings are significant), check the resale value before you commit. These are bags that work hard and hold their value. That is the best kind of purchase.
